The last few days here have been so dreary. It’s been dark, the rain seems to never stop and the clouds cast the gloomiest shadow. For me, it’s felt overwhelmingly endless and energy-less. Just day after day after day…all the same. I don’t mean to be dramatic, but in my mind, I couldn’t stop thinking…enough already! Ever felt that way?
For most of us, at our lowest points, life can feel EXACTLY like that. One loss followed by another defeat followed by a setback. You get up thinking you’re done and wham! You’re blindsided! Whew…been there…I get it.
Have enough of those moments and you get these overwhelming feelings derived from random circumstances, weather, kids, marriage, school, job, family…the list goes on and on. (Note that weather thing is a real thing…ask those with Seasonal Affective Disorder )
Here’s what I know though: Our feelings are just that and often we just have to push through. When I share at conferences, one of my favorite things to teach is, “Don’t stop. Push through the ugly to get to the good.” Where is the good? Our good is on the other side of what we’re feeling right now. If you’re feeling less than, if you’re feeling dark or even dreary, I want to bring you to the light. Now that may remind you of the Poltergeist movie line, “Run to the light, Carol Anne!” but I promise you it’s not that scary. The light I’m suggesting is where real light, love and all truth is.
He who created the earth, the skies and yes, even allowed your circumstance is waiting for you to run into His light and love. Today would be a great day to drop anything way too heavy for you to carry and run into the light of His love.
Meditate on this scripture today.
Psalm 27 of David.
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked advance against me
to devour[a] me,
it is my enemies and my foes
who will stumble and fall.
3 Though an army besiege me,
my heart will not fear;
though war break out against me,
even then I will be confident.
4 One thing I ask from the Lord,
this only do I seek:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple.
5 For in the day of trouble
he will keep me safe in his dwelling;
he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent
and set me high upon a rock.
6 Then my head will be exalted
above the enemies who surround me;
at his sacred tent I will sacrifice with shouts of joy;
I will sing and make music to the Lord.
